Family Research Council

by Jessica Bryan

The FRC criticized the FBI for not “swooping in” when they saw the emails between “the terrorist Hasan” and “a jihadist imam in Yemen,” criticized NARAL and Planned Parenthood for threatening not to fund two congressmen because of their votes on the Stupak Amendment, criticized the Democrats for not being able to identify a place in the Constitution that gives Congress the authority to mandate that Americans buy health insurance, criticized Obama for not creating jobs and listed some suggestions for how to create jobs.

A Washington Update email from the FRC discussed the symbolism and creation of Veteran’s Day, voiced opposition to Judge Hamilton’s nomination and urged subscribers to do the same, and criticized the health care bill for helping veterinarians but not doing much for veterans.

A second Washington Update email from the group criticized the D.C. City Council for voting legislation out of committee without creating exemptions for religious organizations, criticized the AMA for its “liberal agenda,” and discussed the penalties for not having health insurance under the current health care reform bill.

A third Washington Update email criticized end-of-life consultations in the current health care bill, discussed the start of the FRC’s new awareness campaign called “Adult Stem Cells Saved My Life,” Lou Dobbs’ retirement, and advertised FRC Radio’s Washington Watch Weekly.

Focus on the Family

by Jessica Bryan

Focus reported that fewer couples are getting divorced because it is too expensive in this economy, and discussed the authority of Congress to mandate that everyone have health insurance.

An email from Focus contained an article about the possible House vote on health care reform this week.

A second email from the group discussed Focus’ efforts to help, and raise awareness of, orphans.

ERLC

by Jessica Bryan

The ERLC commented on the supposed lack of transparency with the passage of complex and expensive legislation in Congress this year.

Also:

ERLC President Richard Land submitted testimony Oct. 26 for hearings by the D.C. City Council and the D.C. Board of Elections & Ethics, expressing opposition to the same-sex marriage bill and asking that District residents be given the opportunity to vote on marriage.

Sojourners

by M. Pulliam

Action alert: Sojourners asks Americans to let Congress know that the same old broken financial system that lead to the $700 billion bailout will not do, citing scripture, “as Christians, we can advocate for a just financial system based on the wisdom of scripture. The Bible commends ‘those who deal generously and lend, who conduct their affairs with justice’ (Psalm 112:5), and condemns those who oppress the poor and needy for their own gain (Ezekiel 18:10-13).”

Arizona Sheriff had his ability  to enforce immigration laws (Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 287(g)) revoked as he became notorious for repeated abuses.

Sojourners asks if Obama’s Peace Prize is premature and concludes, that no, his vision and immediate actions especially are deserving of the prize and this award should encourage him to continue with that vision. Another blogger sees the award as more of an encouragement and a challenge to America. Jim Wallis also comments on his take, particularly addressing the problem with all of the critics.

Sojourners distinguishes itself from critics on the right and critics on the left, using abortion as an example (a good perspective on a few issues).

Sojourners attempts to break down some of the assumptions that Christians should have certain political theologies, referencing the “Left Behind” series, big government, and the Conservative Bible Project.  Read more about Sojourner’s take on the Conservative Bible Project here.

One blog mentions that President Obama sent two members of his Cabinet, Arne Duncan and Eric Holder, to Chicago to meet with high school students, hoping that he will bring constructive change to the current desolate division between the tourists’ Chicago and the Chicago that the friends of Derrion Albert see.

TVC: Conspiracy to Pass a Liberal Health Care Bill?

by Jessica Bryan

The TVC sent out an email with an article written by a guest columnist who claims that President Obama and other liberals are conspiring to pass liberal health care reform using a “Vapor bill.”  The article’s author claims:

Nobody can say if the bill will contain controversial items including mandatory abortion coverage in health care plans, covering illegal immigrants, the creation of a public plan and mandates on individuals and/or corporations to have insurance. Only an elite group of liberal politicians knows what’s in the bill.

FRC: Abortion, ACORN, Missiles, and Homosexuals

by Jessica Bryan

Tony Perkins’ FRC Action Update email discusses abortion and the health care bill, the “de-funding” of ACORN,  President Obama’s decision to reverse President Bush’s plan to put a missile defense system in Eastern Europe, and “radical homosexual activists and their allies in Congress.”
